GDAS no longer offers Adult High School Diploma program

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year the Gulf County Adult School will not offer Adult High School program. Instead we will offer the GED® program only.  There are age requirements for the GED including an underage waiver provision.

Adult learners enrolled with GDAS can earn a high school equivalency diploma by successfully passing the Standard GED® tests. The GED® Preparation Program consists of four content-area assessments: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematics Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. The purpose of the program is to prepare students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Official GED® Tests and be awarded a State of Florida High School Diploma.  An additional performance level will certify that the adult student is career and college ready.  This program strives to motivate students not only to obtain a GED® diploma, but to continue their education to earn a postsecondary degree, certificate, or industry certification.

The GED® Preparation Program is available to individuals that:

  • Are 16 years or older.
  • Are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school.
  • Do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Underage Waiver

Students who wish to take the GED® exam must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application or apply for an underage waiver. No one under 17 may take the GED exam. Waivers for 17 year old applicants for the GED® examination must meet all of the following criteria in order to be eligible to take the GED® exam:

  1. Officially withdraw from high school.
  2. Register with the Gulf District Adult School and participate in GED® preparation program, with score of 9.0 or higher on all subject areas, for a minimum of 90 hours.
  3. TABE test score of 11.0 overall.
  4. Passing score on GED Ready® test.
  5. Approval from the Coordinator of Adult/Alternative Education.
