GED Testing

The Gulf District Adult School now offers GED Testing at our Port St. Joe site only. Testing is available Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 – 2:30 Eastern.

The price of the GED® test is set in State Board of Education Rule 6A-6.0201 – State of Florida High School Diplomas. The price for one content area is $38.00

  1. Sign up for a GED account at GED.com or on the mobile App GED and Me.
  2. If you would like to check your current academic level, sign up to take the GED practice tests.
  3. When you are ready to take the GED tests, sign up in your GED account and pick The Gulf County Adult School as your site.
  4. Testing slots are available each Monday and Wednesday during the normal school year.
  5. Testing slots can also be set up by appointment on any weekday when school is in session. Please call or text (850)340-0663 and mention GED testing to set up a testing appointment.
  6. If you need help preparing to take the GED tests, classes are available on Tuesday and Thursday nights in Port St. Joe (2853 Long Ave.) and Wewahitchka (2nd Street behind the old gym) from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM local time. Either come by during open hours or call (850)340-0663 and mention GED prep for more information.

Register online at GED.com by clicking the Sign Up button. Registration involves completing the contact and demographic information. Scheduling involves choosing a date, time, and location for testing and paying for the test. GEDTS® has provided resources to help with registration and scheduling:

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The GED® test will be about seven and a half hours long with the timing for each subject area as follows:

The Reasoning Through Language Arts test is 150 minutes long and testing is broken down into three sections:

  • Section 1 (35 minutes*) tests all content
  • Section 2 (45 minutes) is the Extended Response portion of the test
  • Student break (10 minutes)
  • Section 3 (60 minutes*) tests all content

*The time allotted for sections 1 and 3 may vary slightly, but the total test time will always be 150 minutes.

The Mathematical Reasoning test is 115 minutes long and is one single section.

  • Part 1 – (first 5 test questions) calculator not allowed
  • Part 2 – (remaining 41 test questions) calculator allowed

Students must submit their answers before moving on to the rest of the test. These parts are not timed separately.

The Social Studies test is 70 minutes long and is one single section.

The Science test is 90 minutes long and is one single section. There are two Short Answer questions included on the test, but they are not timed separately. Students are expected to manage their time and spend about 10 minutes on each of the Short Answer questions.

AGE EXCEPTIONS

As specified in Florida Statute 1003.435- High school equivalency diploma program:

(4) A candidate for a high school equivalency diploma shall be at least 18 years of age on the date of the examination, except that in extraordinary circumstances, as provided for in rules of the district school board of the district in which the candidate resides or attends school, a candidate may take the examination after reaching the age of 16.

TESTING INFORMATION AND RULES

  1. An ID check will be conducted before each testing session. You must bring the same ID used for registration. We strongly recommend a valid Florida Driver’s License and Social Security card. If these forms of identification are not available, applicants shall present a valid driver’s license or state ID, military ID or passport. If none of these are available, they may present a government issued photo that provides verification of name, date of birth, signature, and address. All identification other than a Florida driver’s license must be approved by the GDAS GED® Testing Office. Outdated identification will not be accepted.
  2. The driver’s license must have a local address or the applicant must bring proof that they live, work, or go to school in Florida.
  3. Candidates must not bring purses, backpacks, tote bags, pagers, portable music players, hand-held electronic games, cameras, hand-held computers, calculators, food items, textbooks (including dictionaries, newspapers, notebooks, supplies, jackets, coats, hoodies, hats or other nonessential items to their seats in the testing room. These items will be collected and stored within view at the owner’s risk.
  4. CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE TESTING ROOM. Any candidate with a cell phone in the testing room during or after testing will have their test invalidated, will lose the money they paid, and they will not be allowed to register for another test for 30 days. After that time they may register for the next available opening. If the examiner believes the test was compromised, the cell phone may be confiscated.
  5. Candidates are expected to dress appropriately for a school/work environment. Low-cut shirts, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, baggy pants, etc. are not allowed. “Hoodies”, or jackets, coats, sweaters that zip, snap, or button all the way down must be left on the table at the side of the room.
  6. Late arrivals will not be tested. Candidates will need to re-register and re-pay for missed sessions.
  7. Candidates may not leave the testing room until he/she completes the test. If a candidate leaves the testing room during a test, test scores for the test in progress will be invalidated. He/she will not be readmitted to that testing session.
  8. Special testing accommodations may be available for candidates with documented disabilities.
  9. When the candidate’s activity or behavior is disruptive to the extent that it jeopardizes the right of others to an environment that is conducive to fair testing, it is the GED® Examiner’s prerogative to notify the candidate at fault that continued disruption will result in dismissal from the testing room. Penalties may include, but are not limited to, dismissal from the testing session, cancellation of scores obtained in that session, and an imposed waiting period before retesting. The GED® Testing Service has the right to cancel test results if it is confirmed that scores were earned with unauthorized aids such as: exchanging information with another candidate, taking an unauthorized time extension, or receiving answers to test questions in advance of the scheduled testing date
  10. GED® candidates must not disclose test questions to anyone. If candidates do, it may be a violation of law, and candidates may be prosecuted.
